Fearless!

DH took the boys out for a stroll around the neighborhood to enjoy the sunny and warmish Sunday we had. Relaxing, right? As soon as the boys entered the front door, DH was complaining and reported that DC has been a naughty child. DH said that DC was running ahead of DH and DA and would stop at the corner of the street to wait for them to catch up. At the last corner before our house, DC was far ahead and DH kept calling his name and telling him to stop and wait. By this time, DH had DA in arms chasing after him. Well, DC darted across the street! DH was in shock. Luckily, no cars were around, but still!!!!! DH was furious and I was too! We tried to explain to him how frightened daddy was, that he could have gotten really hurt, we even told him that we will never take him for walks in the neighborhood (white lie). Somehow, I don't think we got through to him.

Does anyone have any advice? How can we tell DC the severity of the issue at hand? He is 4-1/2 years old and we want him to understand that what he's done is not acceptable.
