Son Son’s First Visit to an Apple Orchard

Son Son’s school’s kindergarten classes got to go Applewood Apple Farm to learn about apples, honey, and pumpkins. He even got to go on a wagon ride (a first). He was very excited because his daddy volunteered to help on the field trip. The children got to pick freshly fallen apples off the ground to bring back to school so that they could learn to make apple pies later in the week. The children were allowed to each pick an apple from a tree to eat while at the farm. It was a cold day but the children had fun.Entrance of Applewood Farms First wagon ride. Taking a bite into his freshly picked apple. The apple they ate at the farm was the only apple they were allowed to pick off the tree. A few days later, Son Son’s class learned to make apple pie. It was my turn to volunteer and I even brought Dai Dai and Moy Moy.

Here’s what the children did to make their pies (the class was split into 5 groups of 3-4 children). The teacher had already pre-made the dough for the pie crust so the children were asked to sign up for a job: “fait une balle”, “pousse la balle”, “roule la balle”, and finally “ajoute les pommes”. The process was repeated for the top crust. The pies were baked and the children ate their pies for snack-time. Because my hubby had purchased a bag of apples for the class, Son Son’s teacher thanked us by making an extra pie for us to bring home. On the top crust she stamped “MERCI” on it. The whole family got to enjoy it that night and Son Son was really proud because he had a part in making it.

Inhaling the apple pie. This is the pie the teacher made to thank us for hubby's apple donation.
